Shannon Costa is a compassionate and dedicated Muslim certified professional labor doula and certified childbirth educator serving families across the Greater Chicago area. With deep reverence for the sacred journey of childbirth, she specializes in providing culturally sensitive, faith-aligned support for Muslim families.
Shannon is certified as a birth doula by DONA International and as a childbirth educator by Lamaze International. She brings evidence-based knowledge, nurturing guidance, and spiritual care to every birth experience. Her background includes the study of Women’s Fiqh under Dr. Rania Awaad and Islamic Ethics through the Al-Amin Ethics Institute—knowledge she thoughtfully weaves into her services, including teachings on ritual purity and Islamic perspectives on childbirth.
Believing in the profound healing power of trusted Muslima support, Shannon centers her care on remembrance of Allah (dhikr), emotional and physical comfort, encouragement, and deep respect. She honors the sacredness of each birth journey, embracing the diversity of outcomes and experiences with compassion and presence.
Shannon considers it a blessing to walk alongside mothers and families during this transformative chapter, offering unwavering support grounded in both expertise and faith.
Notice:
I will not be accepting clients with due dates during Ramadan 2026 (February 18–March 22, 2026).
From April 15, 2026 through January 2027, I will be focusing on prenatal and postpartum meetings, childbirth education, and select postpartum services. During this time, I will have limited availability for attending births.
If you’re interested in working together prenatally, I’d love to connect. Please reach out to discuss the option of having my partner doula attend your birth while still receiving my support throughout pregnancy and postpartum.
